Zombie cocktail: a tiki recipe from Don the Beachcomber.

Recipe

For 1 person
2 cl white rum
2 cl dark rum
2 cl Apricot Brandy
2 cl lime juice
5 cl pineapple juice
1 cl grenadine syrup

How to make

Technique: blender / Glass: collins or tiki / Type: long drink (14cl) / Time: 4 mn
  1. Blend all ingredients with ice cubes.

  2. Pour into a glass.

  3. Decorate with a wedge of pineapple and orange, a cherry and a sprig of mint.

History

The Zombie Cocktail was created by Don the Beachcomber in 1934. The recipe has evolved a lot but the original as found in Don's personal notes is as follows.

  • 3/4 oz lime juice
  • 1/2 oz Don's Mix
  • 1/2 oz swizzle ou falernum
  • 1 1/2 oz Lowndes Jamaïca
  • 1 1/2 oz Puerto Rican Dk. (gold)
  • 1 oz Demerara 151
  • Traits d'Angostura, de grenadine et d'absinthe

Don the Beachcomber also invites you to serve a zombie accompanied by a strawberry.

Zombies are very refreshing cocktails, the sweetness provided by the syrup and the pineapple juice make you forget the alcohol.
