About

Most histories agree that the Suffering Bastard was created in the 1940s, but accounts vary as to its creator and geographic origin. One widely accepted theory places its birth in Cairo, Egypt, during World War II, in a bar at Shepheard's Hotel, which was a popular meeting place for British soldiers and officers. According to this version, the cocktail was invented by a bartender named Joe Scialom, a man of Egyptian and Italian descent, who was the hotel's head bartender at the time.
